From Angels to Hellcats: A Book Review
August 05, 2010
History is full of the stories of men, their wars, and conquests, but less often does one hear of the women who have helped to mold history. From Angels to Hellcats, tells the stories of some of Texas’ legendary women, both famous and infamous. The first woman’s life to be examined is Susanna Dickinson, who, along with her fifteen-month old daughter, survived the Alamo. The narrative follows Susanna from her birth in Tennessee to her marriage to Almeron Dickinson. She and Almeron were living in Texas with their daughter, Angelina, when the Texas Revolution began. Almeron took his wife and child to the Alamo because he felt they would be safer there. As history tells, Susanna and Angelina Dickinson were among the few who survived. Though she is generally ignored by history after the Alamo, Susanna lived another forty-seven years and married four more times. This book is a very good read as it blends historical facts with narrative telling. It makes one feel both entertained and educated
