And the Winner is...Green!

February 19, 2013

Missing those verdant lawns of many months ago? Dreaming of all the green things you want to plant this spring? The color green is in short supply in the middle of February, but not to worry. The Pantone Color Institute, the world’s color authority, recently named Emerald Green as the 2013 Color of the Year. So don’t wait for those lawns and shrubs…green is everywhere right now -- in fashion, beauty, and interiors.

Due to its position in the center of the rainbow and the color wheel, green is known as a balancing color. It can be used as a neutral since it works with almost any other color, and all greens go together, according to Anna Starmer in her inspiring book The Color Scheme Bible. Green is also known as a restful hue, one that brings a sense of renewal, clarity, and serenity. The actual color chosen for the Color of the Year, Pantone® Emerald 17-5641, is described in Pantone’s press release as a "lively, radiant, lush green."

In fashion, emerald brings a classic elegance to clothing and accessories. A rich green handbag can make an outfit… and your day! In cosmetics, green dramatizes all eye colors and is a perfect complement to peaches, pinks, roses, and reds -- and it makes a great nail polish. And in your home, green can instill a sense of calm and harmony (at least that’s what the color experts say!).

Welcome some green into your life today!
