All Saints' Day
October 26, 2012
So, I know everybody is thinking about pumpkins, trick-or-treating, and costumes this week. We’ll all celebrate the last day of October with scary movies and cute kids all dressed up, but what about the day after Halloween? Traditionally, November 1st is known as All Saints' Day.
All Saints' Day honors all the saints known and unknown. In the Catholic faith, it is a Holy Day and is celebrated with a Mass. In Hispanic communities, offerings are made, and this day coincides with La Dia del Los Muertos. In the Philippines, November 1st is called Hallowmas and many visit the graves of their loved ones. What do you know about All Saints' Day? Do you have family traditions to celebrate the day after Halloween?
If you’d like to learn more about lesser known holidays and celebrations, the MCPL catalog has several titles on holidays around the world.
