The 80s Called…
July 24, 2013
"Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?"
"Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious."
That’s just one of the bazillion lines from 80s movies I have locked in the recesses of my brain, along with songs, TV shows, and even commercials. "Where’s the beef?" Oh, how I miss that old girl!
The 80s are back with a vengeance. Like, I was totally helping this rad little girl and her grams the other day find some cool stuff and couldn’t help but notice her gnarly Hello Kitty t-shirt. I was like, "Omigod! Hello Kitty has totally been around since I was your age." Then, I told her about the store at the old Bannister Mall that sold nothing but Hello Kitty stuff. I totally freaked every time I went in that place! The little girl just looked at me like I was way old or something. Duh! This got me to thinking about all the great stuff from my childhood that I see the kids nowadays getting into.
You would think those kids would be like, "The 80s! Grody to the max!" But everywhere I look, they’re sportin’ the 80s look. And a crazy one it was! Some of those styles, like, are you kidding? Gag me with a spoon! But, really, a lot of cool stuff came from that era. John Hughes, anyone? Classics! Not to mention a treasure trove of sitcoms that I could watch over and over and over. And I do. Growing Pains; Who’s the Boss,; Mr. Bellyflop, uh, Belevedere (the daughter’s best friend was a total air-head and called him all sorts of silly names); Alf; Diff’rent Strokes; The Cosby Show; Charles in Charge; Double Trouble; Family Ties….whoa, whoa, whoa, Jenni. Take a chill pill! Don’t get me started on all the awesome music, either!
So, like, if you totally want to get a blast from your past or, like, just turn some of the new generation onto some totally tubular stuff, MCPL can help. For sure! Sit down and search the fabulous new catalog for all things 80s and don’t forget to check out Freegal for some free 80s music downloads. Might I recommend these gems to get you started?
