2011: The Year that a Flying Pop-Tart Rainbow Cat Conquered the World

According to the Vietnamese Zodiac, 2011 is the year of the Cat. I'm not much of a believer in astrological forces influencing the course of human events. But this year, the Vietnamese Zodiac was stunningly accurate. The year 2011 will go down in history as the year that the world was conquered by a cat with a Pop-Tart body flying through outer space leaving a rainbow in its wake, all set to the tune of an annoyingly catchy voice-synthesized ditty.

How did this unstoppable force come to dominate the globe? First, there was a song: Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya! Then came prguitarman's iconic Pop-Tart cat anigif. The two were destined to merge, as nya is the Japanese equivalent to the English meow. Once this epic fusion occurred, resistance was futile. We were all assimilated by the hypnotic glory of Nyan Cat.

The original video only lasts three minutes and thirty-seven seconds. People wanted more! Thus, Nyan Cat became available in 10-, 50-, and 100-hour servings. But even those videos come to an end, eventually. It was inevitable that a website would offer non-stop Nyan Cat, complete with the capability to tweet how long you Nyan in any one session. Of course, just as Superman has an evil opposite in Bizarro, Nyan Cat has an evil opposite: Tac Nayn.
