1930s-1950s Jackson County, Missouri Voter Registrations to Be Digitized
May 18, 2012
FamilySearch, an online genealogy database, has been digitizing the Midwest Genealogy Center’s collection of Jackson County, Missouri voter registration books from the 1930s through the 1950s. These records contain valuable information for historical researchers and genealogists. Not only do the records contain the name and address of the person listed, but also the person’s age, place of birth, and length of time residing in Jackson County. For instance, one famous local family, the Truman's, can be found in the voter registration books. Harry S Truman’s signature, along with entries for his wife, Bess, and daughter, Margaret, are listed. Here's an interesting anecdote; Bess’s age was recorded as over 21, while the other members of the family listed their actual age at the time of registration.
After the records have been digitized, they will be available for volunteers to index through FamilySearch Indexing. When the project is complete, a searchable digital index for the scanned images will be created where you can, not only search for some of Jackson County’s most prominent residents, but also your own family’s names.
