10 Reasons Why the Library is Your Friend...Part I
February 20, 2013
Sometimes random thoughts cross my mind, and today I was thinking, "The Library is my friend in so many ways." The thought didn’t stop there; in fact, I started listing all of the ways that this statement is true. I’ve decided to share some of those ideas in a new blog series. I have no idea how many parts I’ll end up with, and I’m actually hoping that you’ll help contribute. My reason for doing this is to highlight some services or resources provided by MCPL that you may not be aware of.
10 Reasons Why the Library is Your Friend:
1. When your car breaks down and you want to save money by doing it yourself.
MCPL has Chilton and Haynes repair manuals. If you’re truly stuck without transportation and can’t get to the Library, you can retrieve a lot of useful information from our ChiltonLibrary.com or other Auto Repair Reference Center databases, available online or our library app.
2. When you need to send a fax.
Our fax machine is self-serve and takes payment by debit or credit card. If you need to fax using cash as payment, we can share some options with you.
3. When you need to make a copy.
Our branch recently added a second copier, so it is likely you won’t have to wait. Black and white copies cost 10 cents and color copies cost 50 cents. One of our copiers can also print from a USB drive or SD card (charges apply), and it can scan documents to a USB for free.
4. When it’s time to file your taxes.
We have tax forms and computers if you need to print.
5. When your printer runs out of ink or paper.
Our printers are always adequately stocked, and we keep a close eye on toner levels.
6. When your Internet quits working.
Our branch has 27 public computers with Internet access and Wi-Fi service for individuals who have their own devices.
7. When your child has to do a research project.
In addition to books, MCPL provides access to hundreds of Research Databases covering a broad range of topics, as well as documentaries, encyclopedias, and other resources that will help your child get an "A."
8. When you’d like to watch some of the Oscar nominated movies.
MCPL has feature films available for checkout! If you can’t find what you’re looking for, we can put it on hold and have it sent here. You can also visit one of our Library-To-Go facilities.
9. When you want to learn how to knit.
MCPL offers a wide variety of programs and workshops at our branch that are of interest to children, teens, families, and seniors.
10. When you just bought or received a brand new eReader device or laptop and you don’t know how to use it.
MCPL has branch experts who have been specially trained to assist you with your device. Appointments will be required if extended help is needed.
How has the Library been your friend? Let us know!
