Recently, a local charity called Honor Flight paid tribute to WWII Vets with a special trip to our nation’s capitol. According to Honor Flight KC, “Honor Flight Network™ will continue do whatever it takes to fulfill the dreams of our veterans and very importantly, our senior heroes travel absolutely free.” They also say that, “we are losing WW II veterans at the rate of 1000 per day” A short time ago, the nurse, famously photographed being kissed by an American sailor in New York’s Time Square in 1945 to celebrate the end of WWII, died at the age of 91.

November 11 is the day we celebrate all military veterans in the United States. This holiday falls on the date of the anniversary of the end of World War I in 1918. The hostilities between Allied and Central Powers ended at 11:00 a.m. that day. Many other countries also recognize this holiday and call it Armistice Day, and people observe silent memorials at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month each year.
