Do you ever have a desire for television to be the way it was, say twenty years ago? Back then, everything was silly sitcoms and variety shows. I know I do. I’m not a fan of reality television.
Well, there’s been a lot of watching TV at my house. I have completed season one of the Burn/Magnum experiment where I have a close look at Burn Notice and Magnum P.I. Here are the findings.
I love British mysteries and spy stories. Maybe, it's the lack of artifice or the directness and crispness of the language. Or, it could be the toughness and intelligence the characters show while still being civil and polite. I always feel like I'm watching real adults and how they behave when I watch these shows.
Jersey Shore! I’m sure I will lose most parents at this point. It is a horrible TV show in the reality genre that has captivated millions (including myself). I hate that I like it, but I DVR it every week. I am a newcomer to the series. I started last season when the cast returned to the Shore. I wait every week to see who will get in a fight this time, or if Ronnie and Sammie will ever realize how toxic their relationship is. I am not the only one.
There are some things that will always be classic: apple pie and ice cream, a good book on a rainy day, and cartoons from the day when ‘Saturday Morning’ meant something. In these days of the internet, on demand programing, and two hundred stations in your cable bundle, it’s hard to believe that there was ever a time when the main local networks devoted Saturday mornings solely to cartoons. I don’t know when things fell apart for Saturdays – maybe it was Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, I couldn’t tell you exactly. I just have my suspects.
Usually, the hype of the new television season is all about the new shows. Well this year, it just might be about the old shows. There is no doubt that the 2011-2012 TV season shall be interesting and entertaining. Whether an actor or actress is starring in a new show or your old favorite is returning, you may find television on DVD a fun and free option to just veg and hang out. Look no further than MCPL for your favorites.
