Binoculars and Art Kits are flying off the shelves at the Grandview Branch these days. We are winding up our Summer Reading Program, and if your child hasn't finish reading his or her 1080 minutes needed to earn their 3 prizes, the time to do so is now. Infants to high schoolers can participate but the program comes to an end July 31st.
Whether you like Jacob or Edward, show your team spirit at the Lone Jack Branch’s Twilight Saga Ball. Other branches have hosted Twilight Saga Balls this summer, but September 25 is your last chance! We’ll watch New Moon, play games, eat food, and have enough fun to wake the dead!
I started an Anime Club at my branch, where they pay me to watch anime with some really cool kids once a month. I'm also on the Anime Review Committee, which allows me the opportunity to recommend and review new titles for MCPL. This is pretty much a dream come true, since I've been a big anime dork for years. Since I have a lot of people ask me, "What IS anime?", I thought I would put together a short tutorial.
Blue Springs North Branch continues its year's long partnership with Brittany Hills Middle School's Reading Counts program. The joint mission/goal is to promote reading throughout the year!
Reading Counts is a program developed through Scholastic that allows students to read a book, take a quiz on the book, and earn points based on the strength and complexity of the book. Students at Brittany Hills are required to participate and it is a substantial part of the student's grade.
Have you ever been to a program at your local library branch? They are a lot of fun, and full of great information. There are programs for every age level and every interest. The Lone Jack Branch is offering several great programs this fall and winter.
If you are a teen who looked for work during the past summer, you already know it’s a jungle out there. You may be applying for jobs that used to be held by teens, but now you are competing against adults with more experience than you have. Give yourself a leg up by attending this program!
