Can you believe it's already August? That's right; it's the end of our Summer Reading Program here at MCPL! Now don't forget you still have until August 4th to turn in your reading lists here at the Excelsior Springs Branch to pick up your prizes.
This year’s Summer Reading Program was a ravishing success! Thousands of local teens participated, writing just under 30, 000 book reviews. How amazing is that?! This summer was a flurry of library bucks and prizes, but one special Blue Springs North teen walked away with an extra special prize.
It pays to read, and this summer was no exception. On Monday, August 6th, 2012 the Liberty Branch presented one of the winners of MCPL's Summer Reading Program netbook giveaway with his prize. Congratulations Chris Hope on your new netbook computer! This year we had a record number of teens participating in the summer reading program.
We congratulate everyone on their reading success and hope you have a great school year!
Jazzlynn Testerman, a Blue Ridge customer, participated in the Teen Summer Reading Program and it paid off in a special way.
Jazzlynn was one of the five teens who won a Netbook computer in the MCPL Teen Summer Reading Program drawing.
All the teens who participated, by posting book reviews online, earned Library Bucks. The bucks could have been cashed in for books, flash drives, messenger bags, and ear buds. In addition to that, all the teens' names were included in the drawing for a Netbook.
This past fall a committee met to discuss how we could improve our Teen Summer Reading Program. It was decided that we would ask our teens to write reviews for the books that they read. In return for each review that they submitted, they would receive one "Library Buck." which could be used for not only books, but earbuds, flash drives, a messenger bag, or to pay fines. We sweetened the deal by having a drawing for five laptops. The winners of the teen program drawings for these were done by computer.
The Summer Reading Program may still be a few months away, but we have a little contest for you while you are waiting for it. All you have to do is take a picture that captures one of the themes of the program. The winning pictures will be printed in our advertisements. The themes are as follows:
It’s getting warmer out at long last, and we all know what that means-it’s almost time for the Summer Reading program! Teens: this year’s theme is Dig into Reading. What do you think of when you hear these words? Construction? Gardening? Burrowing into a cozy spot to read a new book?
Dig Into Reading and Help the Dinosaur Grow His Scales!
It’s been confirmed over and over that play is a medium through which children learn. And it’s a settled fact that reading is crucial to all learning. So shouldn’t summer fun that includes reading for pleasure be a perfect mix?!
As your child digs into all sorts of reading fun this summer, every reading adventure will help Ray the Reading Dinosaur grow his scales at the Raytown Branch. Rewards await every participant in the form of books and prizes!
While the weather doesn’t show it, the calendar says that it is now May, and that means summer reading is on the way. You can go Beneath the Surface with this year’s Teen Summer Reading Program.
