Hey teens! The North Oak Branch is having a teen Swap Party on Monday, June 11 at 7:00 pm. This should be great fun. Bring your books, games, or whatever you think someone might want and swap it for something new for you. Swaps are permanent, so be sure the items you bring to trade are yours and okay for you to swap. This should be an interesting evening. As in garage sales that your parents have, remember, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
MCPL has started our annual Summer Reading Program and Teen Summer Reading Program that will run through August 3. As a parent, we bring our children to programs at the Library to enrich their summer and allow them to explore different activities.
Our Summer Reading Program will feature the StoneLion Puppet Theatre presenting Starry Starry Night. This amazing program will be held on Saturday, June 16th at 2:00 p.m..
This is just one of many programs that will be featured this summer at our branch.
Tips for Signing Up for the Summer Reading Program
It’s summertime! Time to bring your kids to the Library for some fun reading and cool prizes! When I was growing up, I absolutely LOVED coming to the library and earning free books. And just think, it is not only fun, but a great way to keep their reading levels up for school in the fall.
Registration for the Summer Reading Program this year is online. Here are a few tips that have been the source of questions from our customers.
I really love the Summer Reading Program that MCPL offers. I’m sure you think this has to do with the fact that I’m a Library employee. Mostly, it's because I’m the storytime lady at our branch. These are definitely contributing factors. And, of course, I love my job and love seeing kids enjoy reading. The real reason I love the Summer Reading Program dates back almost 30 years ago.
At the Parkville Branch, we know that summer time is an active time for kids as well as parents. While taking children to baseball practice and dance lessons, it may be difficult to fit in a trip to the Library for summer reading. Even if you are in a hurry, come on in and help yourself to our bundled books. We’ve put together bundles that are easy to pick up and check out, especially if you are on your way out after storytime.
Kids! There's still time to win prizes as part of our Summer Reading Program! SRP will be running until July 31, so if you've been reading this summer but not participating, sign up now. You will earn free books and prizes! You also get to put your name on our Summer Reading wall just like the kids above from Nehemiah's Learning Center. You have until Aug.
Fireworks Bucks - or How I Went Broke for Summer Reading
My seven year-old likes to read, but not every day. I kept asking him to read for his first free book at the Library, but the progress was slow and my nagging was annoying us both. Boom! An idea exploded in my head. I would match his summer reading time with fireworks bucks, fifty cents for each minute he reads!
This summer MCPL has asked children to Dream Big...Read! The Summer Reading Program participation data proves that children are dreaming big. As adults, we know it’s never too late to follow a dream because dreams have no expiration date.
The end is near! Tuesday, the 31st is the last day to enter minutes read, book reviews, or titles finished for the Summer Reading Program. You do have until Saturday, August 4th to claim your prizes, but after that, we’re done.
