Make Family Memories With the Summer Reading Program!
I am helping with the Summer Reading Program this year. As I was unpacking all of the wonderful book titles we give away as prizes, it brought back memories of the Summer Reading Program with my own children.
Hello, readers. It’s May again, and MCPL is gearing up for the Summer Reading Program. We hope all our families will participate in this great event. In addition to being a great form of entertainment (and maybe even education), reading books throughout the summer months will help your child to maintain the level of literacy they’ve achieved throughout the school year. In addition, studies also show that kids who take books (or eBooks!) on vacation are far less irritating to their parents during those long car rides.
It’s that time of year again! Time for school to let out and summer fun to begin! With that comes the Library’s annual Summer Reading Program! This year the program will begin on Monday, May 20th and end on Wednesday, July 31st. This program is for ages birth to 20 and has three different levels:
Getting a child to read can be a really daunting task. I know from experience since I was one of those kids who didn’t really like to read. When I was younger, I’d rather twiddle my thumbs than read a book. Every summer my father stowed the TV away, so all I could do was twiddle my thumbs or read.
School’s out and books are in! Mid-Continent Public Library’s Summer Reading Program starts this week. Are you ready to read?
This summer our theme is "Dig into Reading,” and we have plenty of ways for you to get your hands dirty. Burrow into books with listeners (0-6 years old) and readers (6-11 years old) to earn incentives as you explore words and pictures buried deep within your favorite pages. Teens (11-18 years old) can also participate by tunneling their way through more advanced books and writing reviews for what they’ve read.
The Summer Reading Program: Help Them Dig It, Not Dread It!
It’s that time of year again, the time when eager young readers plunge into their favorite books and earn prizes for meeting their reading goals. Every year thousands of kids and teens take part in Mid-Continent Public Library’s Summer Reading Program (SRP). Now, I won’t get started on how jealous I am of them. The fact that there was nothing like this when I was growing up, and knowing how I would have cleaned up in a program like this, would just be unnecessary bitterness. So, let me move on.
The weather is starting to heat up and the remaing days of school are dwindling down, but these aren't the only signs that summer is approaching fast. The changing of the seasons is also marked by the beginning of the annual Summer Reading Program!
You are never too young to dig into books! Start them off early and let us help by using the Library's Summer Reading Program. Starting now thru Aug. 3rd, your kids can earn free books and prizes. All ages are welcome and encouraged to read during the summer so they don't lose the abilities they mastered during the school year.
Don't forget your little ones, they can also earn free books and prizes. Just read to them.

Now, as many of you already know, you get "Library Bucks" by reading and writing reviews of books. While writing the reviews may not hold a lot of appeal for many of you, it does not have to be a difficult task. We are not looking for a college level book report or an in-depth analysis. Here are some tips to help you crank out some good reviews:
