Just as our customers use the foliage and vegetation as a barometer to the seasons, we gauge the seasons thru library activities. Fall means getting ready to promote our resources that would be useful to the students and getting into the routine of storytime. Winter is marked by craft programs and Read Aloud Family Time (RAFT). The highlight of spring is income tax forms. Summer inspires great creativity among the staff and preparations begin months in advance for this season.
Children and parents are making a splash at the new and improved children’s area of the Raytown Branch. With our enhancement, summer readers are finding it easier to find that perfect book to cool off with. Dive into the new children’s area now on the main floor. It is now more open and easily accessible.
Make a Splash at the Camden Point Branch with the Summer Reading Program

Did you ever wonder what the most checked-out children’s books are? We did. So, we check and here is what we found out.
If you are looking for economical ways to spend this summer with your kids, make sure to get them signed up to participate in this year’s Summer Reading Program.
The program runs from May 24 through July 31, and encourages recreational reading for kids of all ages. Prizes based on the number of minutes spent reading can be earned, so make sure to sign up online.
There’s still plenty of time to Make a Splash or Make Waves at your local Mid-Continent Public Library branch! I just wanted to share a really special painting Jacqueline Howell did for the teen summer reading program.
If you visit the Buckner branch very often, you will see many of Jackie’s great works of art on our bulletin boards and displays. It is really amazing what great talents so many of our employees have, and how lucky everyone is when they share them.
The Summer Reading Program has begun here at Weston and there are a couple of changes you should know about. First, signing up for the program can be done online. Second, you will count the number of minutes you read instead of the number of books. Don’t let these changes put you off from participating in our Summer Reading Program….we are here to help!
