It’s that time of year again! We thought it was never going to get here! What time of year am I talking about? Well, Christmas Time of course! Here at the Weston Branch, we are extremely happy that December has arrived. Yule logs, hot cider, Christmas trees, presents….we have been waiting on it all. You would think we would be satisfied with all of this, but we are not. No, we had to have more to make this holiday season very special.
I’ve been doing storytimes at the Claycomo Branch for four years now. The best part of my job is seeing the kids grow. Last week, I got a nice surprise when a set of twins who used to be in my preschool storytime came in for a visit. It’s been two years since I’ve seen them. That made my day. I have so much joy coming to work on Thursdays and seeing the little ones who show up to hear stories. I will have greater joy as the years pass and I get more surprise visits from the children who attended my storytimes.
Our storytime theme this month is Fun Foods. Nothing says fun like a heaping plate of messy spaghetti and meatballs.
The kids really enjoyed the book More Spaghetti I Say by Paul Brett Johnson. They even joined in singing the "On Top Of Spaghetti" song. Then, using yarn and pompom balls, they created their own plate of spaghetti and meatballs.
I began taking my own daughter, now 14, to storytime when she was just 6 weeks old. I’ll admit; it was as much for me to get out the house as it was to benefit her future reading. But, I was always a library lover and wanted to pass it along to my children. We went along each week to see Ms. Mary at the Parkville Branch. She opened up a world of storytime possibilities. We enjoyed tales of adventure, silly stories, funny puppet shows, and so much more. The world of storytime was magical.
A whole lot of fun is waiting for you and your kids at the Excelsior Springs Branch. Starting on Monday, January 9th, we will be offering the following storytimes:
Family Storytime: Every Monday at 6 p.m. Toddler Storytime: Every Tuesday at 10 a.m. Preschool Storytime: Every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The Boardwalk Branch will be providing a storytime in The Grove at Zona Rosa on Thursday January 19th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will read stories, sing some songs, and provide a child-friendly craft for all children. The Grove is located on the ground level just below the Marshall's.
Library applications and up-coming program booklets will be available. So if you are getting cabin fever, come join us at The Grove in Zona Rosa.
Our storytime kids had a great time making hats from newspapers and then decorating them. They were so proud of them that they even agreed to pose for this picture! Our books centered on hats blowing away, so as they left the building, they were holding on to theirs with all their might. I am happy to report they all made it safely to their vehicles with the hats on their heads.
Do you remember where you were Monday at 10 a.m.? I do!
I was at storytime! And not just any storytime, I was at Toddler Storytime: where it was all about doctors and nurses and how they make us feel better when we’re sick or hurt.
What’s happening at Blue Springs North Branch’s Family Storytime? In a word, lots.
Every week, very special families gather for a fun time. There is a short themed video. Kids who have become "storytime" buddies sit next to each other and enjoy this quiet time. Next, we move on to some fun and rollicking stories. The stories are interactive, and the kids have fun with their contributions. Okay, I don’t know about you, but I am ready for some "wiggle time." This is when we stop sitting, and well, we wiggle!
Love is in the air, and it’s February. Wait a minute—where did January go? Can you believe it’s February? I can’t! February is the month to celebrate love! This month in Baby Time, we’ll be singing songs and reading books about hugs and kisses. I can hear it now to the tune of Wheels on the Bus, "Oh, I just love your hugs and kisses, hugs and kisses, hugs and kisses. Oh, I just love your hugs and kisses, come and give me some!"
