Whoooooo knew that learning words could be so much fun? Kids coming to storytime on Thursday mornings are learning great new vocabulary words that are posted on our seasonally accurate tree. At the end of each month, kids make an owl and write their favorite new words on its belly. This project will continue for 10 more months, or until the tree is full of words. We’ll post a new O.W.L. photo each month, too!
Leaves are swirling and whirling in the crisp cool air, and winter is soon upon us. Come to Baby Time at the Boardwalk Branch in November to sing about leaves, the changing weather, and the wonderful hues of color fall brings along! Your baby will learn repetitive songs each week to go along with the season! Baby Time is every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. for 9-18 month old infants! Our 45-minute session ends with time for babies to interact with each other and play with toys. This is also time for adults to interact and to develop friendships that last a lifetime!
Stories have always been a popular form of entertainment for us. They take many forms and have many meanings. Some are meant to be funny, others tragic.
Who doesn’t like the opportunity to pretend that they’re something that they’re not? The chance to dress up and let the imagination run free, while perhaps only a cathartic opportunity to socialize for adults, is even more meaningful to children. It provides them with the opportunity to solidify social constructs in their minds. Children internalize the morals of right and wrong by playing them out. So, Halloween is the ideal learning experience for kids. By getting together, they get to have fun, eat candy, and learn at the same time!
Lions, witches, and comic characters came to the library for storytime. The preschoolers enjoyed listening to stories and singing songs. While the boys and girls paraded around the library showing off their creative costumes, they were given a library orientation tour introducing non-fiction books. The children had fun choosing and checking out some exciting titles!
Halloween was a boo-scary event at the Liberty Branch!
Boardwalk is taking a break from our morning storytimes during the week of Thanksgiving, but I hope you know how thankful we are for you. Our staff loves getting to read stories with you and sing songs and make crafts. We look forward to seeing you again after Thanksgiving. Have a great holiday!
Sheila Solon Visits Storytime at Blue Springs South!
State Reperesentative Sheila Solon read three Building Block Nominee books to the children at the Blue Springs South Branch on Tuesday, November 8. The children enjoyed her friendliness as well as her storytelling ability.
Great news! The Boardwalk Branch now offers an evening Toddler Time the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. So, if you are a hardworking parent and would like to spend a fun song-dance-music-filled thirty minutes with your adorable toddler at the library, please join us.
Registration is suggested but not mandatory. If you can attend, we would love to see you and your child. Our next evening Toddler Time will be on Wednesday December 7th.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here. We’ve got the old wreaths hanging between windows, the lovely Christmas tree adorned with soft glowing lights spiraling around from branch to branch (not to brag but it’s quite spectacular), and we can’t forget the shiny presents sitting beneath this old tree of ours (sorry, I get distracted by shiny things pretty easily).
The holiday season is upon us, and many of us are busy making plans for meals, gifts, and family time. Remember to take a break from shopping and come to storytime each week! We will ring bells, tap sticks, and clap our hands to the familiar tunes of the season. All of Boardwalk's storytimes will be on break beginning December 20th. They will resume January 3rd.
