Hop on in and join us for a special Easter Bunny Storytime on Wednesday, March 27th at 10:00 a.m. Music, games, and stories will be a fun and educational part of our storytime. Bring a basket and hunt for Easter Eggs with your friends. A silly craft to celebrate the holiday and take home will jump-start the festivities.
April showers bring May flowers. This year it will also bring two days when we must cancel our Tuesday storytimes. On April 9th and April 23, there will be no Baby storytime or Preschool storytime sessions. Miss Bethany and Miss Nola are being sent to workshops that will enhance our storytime presentations.
I recently read an article out of the School Library Journal titled Libraries "App Up" Storytime. A library in Waterton, MA is experimenting with digital storytime, using apps in children's library programs for education, entertainment, and involving parents in the learning process. The benefits and risks of using apps are not yet well known. One of the main disadvantages, in my opinion, is that by depending on electronic devices, it takes away the human interaction with the children.
MCPL & Early Literacy Fun at Clay County Public Health Center!
The Liberty Branch had a wonderful time presenting four Early Literacy Storytimes to more than 115 adults and children on April 16 at the Clay County Public Health Center. Early literacy information and free books were given to each attendee. Children and caregivers alike enjoyed bubbles, rhymes, songs, an interactive story, and parachute activities while learning how to "Have Fun with Books" and many other early literacy skills.
Just to let all our storytime friends know, during the week of May 27, we will be taking an end of the school year break. We start back up the week of June 3 and continue through the end of July, with August being a non-storytime month.
Be sure and check out our new schedule for the summer months. Some times and ages of storytimes have changed. We have a bookmark for your use, but here is the new schedule.
Do you ever get tired of using the same words when there are so many great words to choose from in the English language? Here’s a fun game that you can play with your kids, friends, other family members, and co-workers. Choose a word of the day, and see how many times you can work it into a conversation. It has to be used correctly though. The most popular online dictionary, dictionary.com, makes it easy by offering a word of the day along with the definition.
When I think of summer, I think of the lake, Dari-B ice cream cones, and children playing at the park. I picture all of these things while working at the Library and think, "If I could only think of a job where I could get paid to enjoy summer!"
