Ah, the quiet. You may enjoy it, but we just don't know what to do with it. Despite the old stereotype of the librarian shushing excited children, libraries generally aren't like quiet places anymore. We have programming for adults, teens, and kids. That can be movies, music...the occasional parrot, but it's rarely followed by shushing.
But right now, it is quiet. What can I say? With the kids back in school and shift in weather seemingly moving from summer straight to fall, we're left with downtime.
We hope everyone has had an awesome August! There's great news for all children and for Miss Nola and Miss Bethany; we are going to start our new season of storytimes on Tuesday, September 4th. Yay!
You can join us on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for our Preschool Storytime. Toddler Times are offered at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and 9:30 a.m. on Thursdays. September brings the themes of farms and colors to Toddler Times.
After a month-long hiatus, storytime will resume on September 6th at 10:00 a.m., and it’s going to be SOUPER! Last September through July was fantastic. We focused on learning new words. This year we’ll keep learning new words, but we’ll also be going through the alphabet letter by letter. We’ll be saying "goodbye" to the Owls and "hello" to Alphabet Soup!
Have you ever wondered where we get our ideas for storytime? Once a year, fellow children’s librarians gather together at MCPL Headquarters for a storytime inservice. We share ideas, resources, and listen to a speaker about the importance of early childhood literacy. But we also have other resources we use to help us along in the process.
Too Busy for Storytime on Wednesday? Come See Ms. Kat in Dearborn on Tuesday!
It’s not always easy to get to storytime. Busy schedules, preschool, and other activities make going to a set storytime difficult. To make life a little easier, I am now hosting a second storytime at the Dearborn Branch on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m.! Join us on either Tuesday in Dearborn or Wednesday in Edgerton for a fun and educational storytime for the whole family. If you love books, bubbles, music and movement, fingerplays, and of course, the PARACHUTE!!
Have you and your kids missed coming to our storytimes during the holidays? Well, here’s some good news: They’re coming back. Storytimes will be resuming on their regular days and times next week, staring on Monday, January 7th.

Do you love reading to your children? It can be one of the greatest things you can do with and for your children. The more you read to them stories they love, the more they learn to be better readers. You can't go wrong.
Hello, spring is here! Well, maybe not quite! The first day of spring is March 20th, right around the corner. I have enjoyed the snow and so have my kids! It has been a while since they have been able to play in the snow. But soon it will all melt away, and we’ll see new buds on the trees and green grass!
