How To Escape The Highway Patrol: An Interview With Joe Posnanski
Since 1996, Joe Posnanski has sweetened the dulling pain of thousands of Kansas City sports fans.
His columns at the Kansas City Star, single-handedly ushered me through two of the darkest eras in Kansas City sports: the Tony Pena Jr./Angel Berroa fiasco and the post-Saleaumua decline of the Chiefs.
The Blue Ridge Branch has many, many sports biographies. Today’s subject: Ted Williams, aka Terrible Ted. I don’t remember seeing him play on television, but he was featured on a well-known cereal’s box when I was a kid. I just always knew he was a great hitter and for me, was the face of major league baseball.
Do you know why he was called Terrible Ted, as well as the Splendid Splinter, the Thumper, and Teddy Ballgame?
Did you know he interrupted his baseball career to serve in World War II and the Korean War?
Two retired guys I know are about to begin what I have dubbed, “Jim and Bob’s Mini Baseball Adventure”. They begin the three day stint with an afternoon game at “The K” with the Boys in Blue vs Toronto. If they survive the heat and humidity, they’ll take in the evening game of the KC T-Bones vs the Schaumburg Flyers (Illinois).

Oh yes, I am! I'm not sure when my need for a football fix edged out my love for baseball, but it happened. Mind you, I'd love nothing more than to be at the Royal's game today and the Chiefs's game tonight. What a kick, that would be!
If you don't share my enthusiasm or don't even understand the game, may I suggest some titles from our shelves? If you do love the game, you'll have fun reading these as well.
Now I have to be honest, I don’t watch college football, nor do I have many of the statistics of the teams memorized. Honestly, I can’t even tell you what all the plays are. But, I do know that there are many resources in the library to utilize if you are interested in such information.
There's a lot of Chiefs fans around here, so this should be easy.
I don't expect the chiefs to go to the Super Bowl (unless they can play the Browns every week), but the Chiefs are 2-0. Last year, nine teams started 2-0. Five made the playoffs, and none of the other four ended up with a losing record.
When was the last time the Chiefs started 2-0 and ended up with a losing record?
October is the time for one of America's 'ultimate' classics. You sports fans know what I mean. It's the fall classic, or better known as the "World Series"! In case you somehow missed it, Ken Burns added a new segment to his outstanding documentary on Baseball. It's called the 10th Inning, and ran on channel 19 recently.
Here's what Kristin Clarke a.ka. Eclipse of the Kansas City Roller Warriors had to say about the impact of the recent Ellen Page movie on the sport, dealing out pain, and what to expect at a roller derby match.
