Our local Lee's Summit Police Department has a webpage dedicated to Safety Information. With so many people out shopping these days, it just takes one instance of carelessness or failure to be aware of your surroundings to make you vulnerable to crime. Take a moment and go over the department's Holiday Shopping Safety suggestions.
I rolled over, kissed my husband goodbye, waved at my daughter and son-in-love, and rolled over to reset the alarm. I was cozy in my bed, and my family was off to find a bargain. Really? Crazy, right? Why did they leave me, why is the library open on Black Friday, why isn't Friday another day of Thanksgiving? I went back to sleep, dreaming of boxes of books and moving trucks only to hear laughter and stories as my family jumped on the bed to show me their treasures. So on my first break, after a game of Bananagrams, I found a book to answer all my questions.
The holiday season is here. That means it’s time to start thinking about gift shopping. The rest of my family lives in either Oregon or California, so whatever gifts I buy have to be shipped. When I first came out here to Missouri in 2000, one of my most enduring memories was exploring the Plaza for the perfect holiday gifts. I spent a lot of time going through all sorts of shops before I managed to roundup all the gifts I needed.
When it comes to Thanksgiving at my house, it's not so much about the dinner. Don't get me wrong. We all love to get together and eat, but Thanksgiving Day is also a lot about the newspaper ads.
You see, my sister and my niece love to take their life in their hands by shopping on BLACK FRIDAY. First, they have to set up their game plan. They spread out all the sale ads to see what's on sale, which store has the best prices, and most importantly, which store opens first. Then, they plan out the best route.
As the holiday season quickly approaches, I find myself thinking about what to get for my grandchildren. One of the things I always include in my gift giving for them is a book. I started this tradition many years ago when my first grandchild was born.
Black Friday is November 23, and people everywhere will be heading out to get really great deals on the items on their Christmas lists. The ads are already hitting the Internet. The website is a great place to view the ads so you can start your plan of attack. Happy shopping.
