The MCC Flights of Fancy Kite Festival took place on April 21, 2012. The wind left a bit to be desired, but plenty of kites still made it up in the air. There was a 100 foot long squid and a thirty foot kitty cat (the owner is a Kansas State fan). I personally enjoyed a thirst-inducing walking taco salad (Fritos covered in various taco toppings) and a thirst-quenching cherry limeade while enjoying the beautiful sunny weather.

It was formed in 1991 to support youth and their families in the sport of rodeo. They want to keep young people involved in an activity where drugs and alcohol are not allowed. One of my favorite annual events is coming up this weekend in nearby Riverside--the Kansas City Scottish Highland Games. I have been attending this event off and on for over 20 years, and I love it every time I go! All my friends know that I love all things Scottish. Hey, I even tried haggis and liked it!

It's geared at boys and girls ages 8-15 and meets every Thursday night from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. This program was created to provide boys and girls in the community, and their parents, a night to have fun by offering a variety of games they can participate in together in a safe environment. At the end of the evening, a mentoring session will be held by the police or fire department on different topics with the boys and girls.
