Every August, Lone Jack gears up for a battle! Actually, it is the 1862 Lone Jack Civil War Battle Commemoration. People come from everywhere to enjoy the festivities. Some of the activities this year include a Boy Scout pancake breakfast, a parade, craft booths, a PTA carnival, and concessions with all kinds of good food. There will be dancers, Gospel music, and several other activities. Join us for the fun on August 20th from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are a history buff (and even if you're not), you will certainly enjoy the Commemoration!
Mark your calendars, friends! On September 24th, 2011, Johnson County Community College is hosting my favorite event of the year: The Greater Kansas City Japan Festival!
It is a spectacular day full of authentic foods, beautiful artwork, traditional clothing, and stunning performances.
Fall is coming up on us quick. And with fall comes a whole host of parades and festivals in and around Kansas City! The following are just some of the parades/festivals coming up (and ones in which MCPL will be participating):
The parade will start everything off on Saturday morning. Throughout the weekend, there will be several different musical performances as well as other live entertainment. There will be a children’s area and a petting zoo to keep the kids entertained. There will also be several different vendors selling food, crafts, etc.
What would September be without Oktoberfest?!? In a time-honored Lee’s Summit tradition, Oktoberfest 2011 will be held September 23rd and 24th in historic downtown.
Fall is almost upon us. As everyone in Weston knows, the first Saturday in October is Applefest! There will be parades, apple cider, apple butter making, and hay baling. Shops downtown are decorated for the season, and will be busy. I hope everyone comes out to see the parade because the Book Cart Drill Team will show off their Book cart moves.
Hey everyone, it’s that time of the year again. Come join us in our beautiful downtown Smithville, Missouri for our 11th annual Octoberfest. This year’s Octoberfest will be held on Friday October 7th & Saturday October 8th. Vendors will be open Friday October 7th from 5:00 p.m. till 10:00 p.m. and Saturday, October the 8th from 10:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m. Here are a few of the many fun things going on this year.
Autumn...that wonderful time of year when leaves turn brilliant colors, days are cooler, and little ghoulies come out for Halloween. If you’re looking for something special to do with your little goblins, several things are going on around town this month:
