The American Legion Boys State of Missouri took place this year June 12-19th at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO. 1,000 of the top high school students come together and build an entire government in the week they are there. Using their unique abilities and beliefs, the boys create a working political system which includes law enforcement, court systems, and all the other aspects of government.
It’s time again for the Platte County Fair! What an exciting time for adults and children alike. The 147th Annual Platte County Fair opened on July 21st and will run through July 24th. It takes place at the fairground in Platte City (exit 18 or 20), off Interstate 29. There are lots of fun events planned including the following: demolition derby, mud-a-thon, huge carnival, fiddle and talent shows, a melodrama and nightly musical entertainment. Join us for the Mid-Continent Public Library’s annual Veterans Salute at the Platte City Branch Library on Saturday, October 23rd. Opening ceremonies will begin at 9:30 am. This year’s program will feature exhibits of historic memorabilia, vintage military vehicles, a weapons demonstration, a World War II reenactment, a veterans’ roundtable discussion, and more.
