Today, we arrived in Italy. As we drive down the road, there are hills on one side and the sea on the other. We spent some time in Pisa today, and I’m feeling a little lopsided. I don’t know who built this, but there was a major design flaw! However I guess it’s been this way for centuries, and they’ve tried several times to keep it from falling. Supposedly, Galileo dropped different weights from the top of the tower to test theories of gravity.
For the first time in many years, Squeaker is taking a break and going on vacation. He'll be gone for the month of August. But when Squeaker comes back, he'll be rested and ready to do storytimes every Thursday at 10 a.m.
I hope he'll send a postcard to the library while he's gone. I heard that he's going to do some sailing and go to the beach. He's also going to find some great imported cheese during his trip.
Our second day in Italy takes us to Florence or Firenze, as the Italians call it. It’s beautiful, and art work is everywhere. Statues are throughout the city, and the most popular is one called David. I think he needs to be wearing a bookmark! We walked across the Ponte Vecchio, which has jewelry shops on the bridge. Other shops are selling leather items, so I’m looking for another pretty bookmark. Lunch was fantastic; it was a real Italian pizza with a salad at an outdoor restaurant.
The fall migration of the Invisible Turtle Colony at the Red Bridge Branch has begun! Although they were frightened into hiding during our recent branch enhancement, the turtles have once again returned to our isles and are causing their usual mischief. As to be expected, the recent rearrangement of materials in the library has caused some disruption.
For just a little fun to exercise your mind after a great Thanksgiving meal, can you figure out these titles? All are books with numbers in their titles. (If you need a clue, we have included the author’s last name. Answers follow.)
It only took 60 seconds to humiliate ourselves. As a fan of Minute to Win It, I thought, why not bring this closer to home? So, the teens of the Blue Springs North Branch decided to do just that. And we have pictures!
Last Tuesday December 6th, we performed the most hilarious stunts known to man. Maybe I’m exaggerating, so what. But, it was fun. Please enjoy the following photos documenting our intrigue. Be sure to join us next year. Who knows what we will get into?
