Laughter and smiles were everywhere on Wednesday, September 20th as the Grandview Branch hosted their 1st Annual Community Services Fair. Children were treated to a puppet show by Anitra Steele, and their parents learned about low cost and no cost services available to young families in and around our community. Everyone enjoyed refreshments, and had a chance to pick out a free book to take home with them. Many of them, like our new friend Chase Ashby, were able to sign up for their very first library card. We look forward to the many opportunities Chase will have in the years to come.
Local authorities (made up mostly of library staff) have been hard at work trying to locate our faithful Ragsdale. Our investigation has turned up some shady characters that we think might have a lead or two. Have you seen these librarians?
It's story time again, and Squeaker the storytime mouse is having a good time sharing books with the kids. He just loves to make them laugh. Silly Tilly by Eileen Spinelli was a laugh out loud story. I wonder what he will come up with next Thursday?
Come join us at the Blue Springs South Branch for our Monday Night Teen Read. We discuss books, play goofy games, and have refreshments and a great time. We meet every Monday night at 7:00. Come prepared to share a clean joke, or something cool you have learned to teach us all.
My reasons for making it Chuck Norris Awareness Week(CNAW):
A few years ago, I made a New Year's resolution to shed a little Norris on this world. So, I made it my goal to tell my mailman the same Chuck Norris joke every day for a year. By the end of March, not only had our friendship deteriorated, but my mailman began to wad all of my letters and bills into a small ball, wrap duct tape around the ball, and then he would throw the ball at my vinyl siding.
I'm still peeling those silver warts of postage off the side of my house!
Squeaker is excited about Halloween, but a little afraid of the Jack O'Lanterns. Then, he met some new friends when the teens did some pumpkin carving at the library. Now, he wants to know if we can dye him orange too.
Terrible Holiday Songs: Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer
This list is far from being definitive or comprehensive or objective, but I have been asking around and here is the first in a series dedicated to the worst holiday songs ever.
Terrible Holiday Songs Part Two: The Twelve Days Of A Cleveland Browns Christmas
I am almost positive that this is the only holiday parody song featuring the Cleveland Browns. The song features twelve unique references to the Browns team of 1980. That year, the Browns gained the nickname the Kardiac Kids due to their aptitude for late game heroics and meltdowns. It clocks in at just over four minutes.
