In our MCPL Library system, it is our branch managers that go to a book meeting each month to purchase the books for their branches. I was able to go one month, see this process, and help purchase books for our branch collection. I purchased a book called Dump him, Marry the Horse. I am a big horse lover, so I could not see this book without getting a copy for our branch.
This past Saturday (May 7) the Kentucky Derby took place at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The first leg of the Triple Crown was won by a horse named Animal Kingdom. The other two races are the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. The Preakness Stakes will be held in Baltimore, Maryland on May 21st, and the Belmont Stakes will be held in Elmont, New York on June 11th.
Thanks to all the families who came to see the horses at the Blue Springs North Branch on Saturday, May 5, 2012 for the Horse Hooves in the Grass program! Kansas City’s Sunset Trails Stables brought two Quarter horses that the kids got to groom and pet! The children also learned about basic horse care, horse safety, and listened to a horse story.
I wanted a horse. I did not want to be anything except a girl with a horse. I read all the books about horse breeds and all the books about how to care for and feed a horse. I saved my allowance for riding lessons. I wrote a book about a girl and her horse--in my journal of course, not for real. My poor dad--he never said no to me when I was a kid, never, and he had to say no to a horse.
Horses at the Library?! Don’t worry, you won’t have to watch your step for stray droppings while looking for a good book to read, they’ll be outside in the grass! The Kansas City Sunset Trails Horse Stables will be bringing out horses to the Blue Ridge Branch this Saturday April 13 at 2:00 p.m.
Come out to the Blue Ridge Branch, bring the kiddos, and meet and groom some beautiful creatures.
