An interesting trail for hiking or biking is the Katy Trail. The Katy Trail is a state park which originates in St. Charles, MO and ends in Clinton, MO. The trail follows the Missouri River for most of its route. It is made of fine crushed limestone, which makes for easy biking or hiking. Also, it is flat and only 225 miles long. The Katy was built on the former corridor of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT or "Katy") Railroad.
No matter where we have lived during our 26 years of marriage or where our travels have taken us, my husband and I love to get outdoors and explore the local walking and hiking trails. Now, I certainly appreciate having easy access to shopping, restaurants and entertainment - and I do! But, I also need to get out there and experience the natural beauty around me.
Spring is now in full swing and that means more and more people are getting out of the house for some outdoor activities. Walking is one way of getting out of the house, with the added advantage of promoting a healthy lifestyle. One way to make your walking experience more enjoyable, fun, and scenic would be to hike around the city. Kansas City has numerous parks and trails, all consisting of different aspects to accommodate the beginner to the experienced hiker.
With the recent drop in temperature, there are many activities that beckon us to venture outdoors. Certainly, there are many choices with the seasonal return of school sports. If you enjoy watching, you can choose your favorite—soccer, football, tennis, baseball. However, if you are anxious to get moving yourself, let me recommend my favorite—hiking.
