After months of waiting, intrepid fans finally welcome back the beginning of football season, starting September 9th. The sport has come a long way from its beginnings in the 1800's as a sort of hybrid between soccer and rugby. Football was originally a college sport. Yale coach, Walter Camp, is credited with many of the initial changes that distinguished football from soccer or rugby.
Oh yes, I am! I'm not sure when my need for a football fix edged out my love for baseball, but it happened. Mind you, I'd love nothing more than to be at the Royal's game today and the Chiefs's game tonight. What a kick, that would be!
If you don't share my enthusiasm or don't even understand the game, may I suggest some titles from our shelves? If you do love the game, you'll have fun reading these as well.
Now I have to be honest, I don’t watch college football, nor do I have many of the statistics of the teams memorized. Honestly, I can’t even tell you what all the plays are. But, I do know that there are many resources in the library to utilize if you are interested in such information.
There's a lot of Chiefs fans around here, so this should be easy.
I don't expect the chiefs to go to the Super Bowl (unless they can play the Browns every week), but the Chiefs are 2-0. Last year, nine teams started 2-0. Five made the playoffs, and none of the other four ended up with a losing record.
When was the last time the Chiefs started 2-0 and ended up with a losing record?
Kansas City’s loss Sunday probably left a lot of people upset. After a long successful season, it doesn’t seem like Chiefs' football should be over. For those of you who aren’t quite ready to finish the football season, here are a few books that will make it feel like Week 1 all over again.
Playoffs? Don't Talk About - Playoffs? You Kidding Me? Playoffs??
And thus it happened, as it does this time EVERY year, the NFL has advanced forward into another round of football playoffs. And thus it happened, as it seems to happen EVERY year, your team did not advance with them.
Sure, you’ll watch the remaining games, the Super Bowl, and maybe even the Pro Bowl --though, I don’t know anyone whose level of pigskin addiction requires them to view that train wreck – but for most of us, this is the end.
What a great game that was! The Super Bowl trophy is headed back to Green Bay with the Packers, but the conversation I hear the most is about the commercials.
Football, at last, has made its triumphant return, and fans everywhere have breathed a collective sigh of relief. As such, it stands to reason that for the next few months, the airwaves will be literally saturated with gridiron talk.
Fall, Autumn, whatever you call it, it’s the time of year when the temperature gets cooler (thank goodness!), the leaves on the trees turn brilliant colors, the kids are back in school, and the Chiefs are playing some football!
The Kansas City Chiefs are definitely one of the reasons Kansas Citians like fall so much. Could it be that Kansas Citians love football? Or, is it that we all hold out hope for another Super Bowl win (let’s face it; it’s been over 40 years)! Or, is it the camaraderie we feel as a city, all coming together to cheer for one team?
