A sea of red welcomed a very special visitor to the Grandview Branch a couple weeks ago. We were pleased to host an appearance by Dan Meers, known better to most people as his alter-ego, KC Wolf.
My husband and I have three young adults. When our oldest started kindergarten, I drove her to school. One day as I watched her walk down the hall to her class, a teacher whose children had grown up said to me, "Tomorrow she will graduate." My thoughts were, how can this be? Today, that daughter is in her third year of college. Our middle child will graduate this year, and our youngest will graduate in 2013. I’m thankful for the advice from mothers who encouraged me to keep a journal of the cute things they have said.
Swoop and Talon flew into our library the other night. These amazing owls belong to Yvonne Patterson with "Wings of Love". Swoop is an eagle owl, and Talon is a spectacled owl. If you've never seen an owl close up, it is an amazing sight. They have very large brightly colored eyes with large fury eyelids. Owls are know for their silent flight, and to test that out, they did a couple of flyovers for us. While you could feel the whoosh of air, you didn't really hear their wings.
The Red Bridge Branch experienced an awesome afternoon on November 13 with our yearly American Girl Tea Party with Felicity, a young girl growing up right before the American Revolution as the theme. There were sixty girls in attendance, along with thirty mothers and grandmothers.
The young girls had happy expressions on their faces as they listened to a few paragraphs that were read describing Felicity’s personality, and reliving her experiences in 1774 as a young girl in the city of Williamsburg in the colony of Virginia.
Attention all children and parents… Guess who’s coming to town and will be at the Blue Springs North Branch? That’s right! It’s Santa Claus and he’s bringing Mrs. Claus with him. They will be reading holiday stories to the children and afterward, Santa will be available for all the children to tell him what they want for Christmas. So parents, be sure to bring your cameras along and take pictures of your children with Santa and Mrs. Claus. You don’t want to miss out on this fun and exciting visit before they return to the North Pole to prepare for the holidays!
Santa Claus does exist and he, along with Mrs. Claus, will be at the Weston Branch on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. The Claus Family will be making a special trip to the library to share holiday stories and to find out who has been naughty and who has been nice. Parents, remember to bring your cameras as Santa’s lap will be available for sitting after the story. For more information, call us at 816-640-2874. All of us here at the Weston Branch wish you a Happy Holidays!
Two great opportunities to celebrate the Christmas season are coming to the Grandview Branch. Bring the entire family and be ready to laugh and sing in the season as kid rocker Jim Cosgrove brings Mr. Skinky Feet's Christmas to our branch on Thursday, December 9th at 7 p.m. This show will remind you what the holidays look like through a child's eyes.
Santa might know who’s naughty and nice, but can he carry a tune? Absolutely!
Join us at the Mid-Continent Public Library - Kearney Branch Thursday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. for Santa with a Tune. The man in the red suit will sing all the holiday favorites. Then, everyone will have a chance sit on Santa’s lap. Bring a camera to capture all the fun.
