Almost everyone is looking for free entertainment nowadays. If that’s the case, you’ll want to join us this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. to see teen illusionist Patrick Jones and his lovely assistant Lena, as he entertains us with close-up card tricks, stage illusions, and more.
Prestige Illusions has visited us before, and all who attended had a wonderful time. Sign up online, or give us a call at 816.741.6288 if you plan to attend.
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is brought to life at MCPL. Join us Tuesday, November 29th, 7:00 p.m. at Blue Springs North Branch as David zum Brunnen portrays the 17 Christmas Carol characters and Dickens himself. A favorite for all ages, this excellent performance rings in the Christmas cheer as we hear from Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim, Mr. Fezzwig, Bob Cratchit, and the four Ghosts of Christmas, just to name a few.
Santa Just Wasn't Himself Until He Met Thomas Nast
The Santa Claus we know today—the chubby, jolly man who lives at the North Pole—didn't exist until editorial cartoonist Thomas Nast began drawing him around the time of the American Civil War.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here. We’ve got the old wreaths hanging between windows, the lovely Christmas tree adorned with soft glowing lights spiraling around from branch to branch (not to brag but it’s quite spectacular), and we can’t forget the shiny presents sitting beneath this old tree of ours (sorry, I get distracted by shiny things pretty easily).
It’s that time of year again! We thought it was never going to get here! What time of year am I talking about? Well, Christmas Time of course! Here at the Weston Branch, we are extremely happy that December has arrived. Yule logs, hot cider, Christmas trees, presents….we have been waiting on it all. You would think we would be satisfied with all of this, but we are not. No, we had to have more to make this holiday season very special.
Santa is making his rounds this time of year! It’s time for the little ones to line up to tell the jolly old elf all their wishes for Christmas this year. When I was a young girl, I was actually quite afraid of Santa. My first photo with Santa shows me screaming and crying. When my family asked me how I liked my visit with Santa, I became sheepish and said, "I cried." My mother says it was several more years before I’d even go near the big guy.
Join us at the library for a special Christmas performance by students from the Lawson High School Select Choir. These young and talented singers will be at the Excelsior Springs Branch to sing holiday carols and share the Christmas spirit. The performance will be on Thursday, December 15 at 2:30 pm.
Did you hear that!?! There was a sound up on the rooftop, the prancing and pawing of each little hoof. I looked out the window and saw nothing, but I could hear the echo of a Ho-Ho-Ho!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Happy Holidays! Silver Bells! If you listen to any of the "all" Christmas radio stations, you can’t help but become familiar with these songs. However, there is another song which is played at this time of year, at least in Kansas City. It’s a little tune titled It’s Christmas in Kansas City, which includes in its lyrics various events and attractions associated with the Christmas season in our metropolitan area.
I have childhood memories, as I'm sure many of you do, of drums made from coffee cans, cardboard tube horns, and guitars made of rubber bands and a Kleenex box or a cigar box. Not only did these homemade creations roughly (emphasis on roughly) resemble the instruments they were modeled after, but we could occasionally make actual "music" with them.
