What do kids from Camden Point do during the summer? Camden Point does not offer a lot of entertainment as larger communities and the city provide. However, kids are very resourceful and tend to stay busy.
One way for kids to stay busy is to play ball. They play T-ball, coach pitch, and kid pitch. There are A leagues, AA leagues, and AAA leagues; starting from preschool all the way through high school. Usually there are two games a week; with traveling to be done to the neighboring towns.
This makes me think of the best dancing books that I have read. There are so many different stories that contain dancing as part of the characters backgrounds. I have selected my top three favorites to share with you.
The Mid-Continent Public Library is much more than just books and computers. One of our most popular features is our programs for everyone from children to senior customers. For one of our adult programs at the Claycomo Branch, customers made a beaded Uncle Sam. He has lights inside and is good for a night light or just pretty to have for the Holidays. This is a very intricate project that sometimes requires two sessions to complete. There are more beading projects coming up in the future.
What is your pick? I have read both Twilight by Stephenie Meyer and Fallen by Lauren Kate. Both books were very good, but I was ready for something new.
The MCPL Weston Branch celebrated the 4th of July at storytime last week. Filling in for Ms. Sandy was Ms. Lynn. She read Happy 4th of July, Jenny Sweeney! written by Leslie Kimmelman & illustrated by Nancy Cote. After the story, the kids created Independence Day visors. Storytime ended with its own version of fireworks with the children jumping up and down on giant bubble wrap.
Every single Thursday, unless it’s a holiday, the Blue Ridge Branch offers pre-school storytime, at 10:00 a.m. We would be so pleased if you would come.
The Summer Reading Program at the Camden Point Branch is underway. Although the Camden Point Branch hosts programs throughout the whole year, it is during the summer when we host programs almost every week. And yes, most of the programs are mostly attended by kids, parents, teachers and adults.
This June, Lee’s Summit teens submitted over 50 works of art for our first annual Teen Art Show. The winners are on display at our branch for the rest of the summer. Stop by and check them out!
