War Bonds: the Songs and Letters of World War II at the Midwest Genealogy Center last year was quite a hit, and it is coming back to MGC this fall. War Bonds, presented by EbzB Productions, is a multi-media musical journey through a war that redefined the world. By watching several couples in the audience at last year’s production and their response to the songs and dialog, the program hit sentimental as well as soft spots in their hearts.
Have a Howling Good Time At the Red Bridge Branch!

The party starts at two and lasts until three. Still plenty of time afterward to pick up a few books to read on Sunday while you’re waiting for the trick-or-treating to start!
Have you ever thought about the sacrifices that our service men and women have made during times of war, and wanted to know more about their lives? Come join us Saturday, October 23 from 2pm – 4pm while we throw a Pink Party to support Breast Cancer Awareness. We will play Bunko, hear professionals talk about early detection, and visit with a survivor’s panel. There will be snacks, door prizes, and chair massages.
Dr. Ron Miriani, retired Professor of History, conducted a walking tour called Westport: The Town That Re-Invents Itself on October 9. The group met at Kelly’s Westport Inn, a designated national historical landmark, and stopped at over 30 locations, including Harris Hotel and Pioneer Park.
Patrons explored the little known history of Kansas City’s oldest establishment, Westport. The adventure culminated with a tour of the Harris-Kearney House given by the Westport Historical Society.
Come join the Mid-Continent Public Library as we honor our veterans. Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23rd, the Platte City Branch will host patriotic music, military vehicles, exhibits from local veterans and their organizations, as well as Q & A sessions with veterans and currently serving military officers. The Salute will end at 4:00 p.m.

The storytime children at the Dearborn branch went "trick-or-treating" to several prearranged nearby locations Tuesday. This is a tradition of several years here. The parents enjoy the event and have a great opportunity to get pictures. The local businesses they visit enjoy seeing the children, and it is a social occasion for kids and parents alike.
