The 2012 drought brought dry, hot summer weather and not much relief through the fall. Our grass turned brown, our water bill went up, and our young trees died, but the drought affected much more than just our lawns.
Last year the worst drought in 60 years caused cracks in the foundations of the Midwest. Personally, it literally caused a crack in the foundation of my house. As I look at the news and talk to my neighbors, it seems I might be getting off lightly. Experts are indicating that the 2012 drought may have a long-lasting effect on food prices, biofuel production, and even the exports the U.S. provides to other countries.
