October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence comes in many forms; it can be physical, emotional, sexual, or psychological. Anyone, anywhere, regardless of age, race, religion, or gender, can be affected by domestic violence. Domestic violence is about power and control over another. It is one person using his or her actions to gain power or control over another. Sometimes, it is difficult to recognize the abuse--it isn't as easy as spotting a black eye or a broken arm--but the terror, the fear, and the loss of self-worth are still there.
