Each year before Armistice Day, the North Platte art students work on patriotic drawings. The school has a special event for Veterans Day, and invites area veterans to the school to be recoginzed. People who come to the event can see the art on display.
This month, we’re encouraging everyone to get their gears turning at the library. There are plenty of opportunities to learn—and lots of really cool things to learn about—but everybody feels like a dummy sometime.

What a pleasure it is to see local student's art work on display in our library branch. This month, the 6th Grade students from Maple Park Middle School, led by Ms. Baker, are sharing their "Altered Self-Portraits" with us. In addition to this, Mrs. McKiddie and Ms. Boydston from Antioch Middle School are sharing a variety of art including "Still Life Drawing", "Surrealism Stacked Forms", and "Rhythm Design".
Are you an adult hiding that teen book under your blanket at night with your book light? Or, do you anxiously wait for your teenager to head to school so you can pick up their Young Adult book? Well, as a fully grown, middle-aged adult, I am here to tell you; you don't have to hide. Come out in the sunshine, or grab a chair in the shade, you are not alone. There are a lot of us out here and we are here to say, "We like Young Adult books and we aren't ashamed to admit it!" Right now, our branch has a display entitled "Teen Books Adults Can Enjoy!" Come on in and check some out.
March marks the first month of our Staff Picks Display here at the Blue Springs South Branch. Every month, a staff member will place some of their favorite titles on display to share with the masses.
This month, my picks are on display. I chose certain titles for different reasons, ranging from the first "grown-up" book I ever read to a book about my favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals. Hopefully, there will be something that you will enjoy. There are also some music CDs on display, as well, if you are more musically inclined.
I looooove zombies, and I looooove books. It just seems fitting to put together a zombie book list! Here are some great titles that Mid-Continent Public Library carries. Come in to our South Independence Branch to check out our cool display!
There’s so much material in any library that even browsing the stacks to find something interesting can take a lot of time. That’s why we have displays. The Boardwalk staff makes new displays throughout the building every month so you can easily find and checkout materials on a diverse--and changing--range of topics and reading levels. Here’s a sample of what’s on display in March:
