Do you know what fado, reggae, klezmer, gospel and world fusion have in common? They’re all music genres! MCPL’s online research database, Contemporary World Music, has tens of thousands of music tracks that will take you "around the world" musically.
I was looking over the library’s databases and started looking into America the Beautiful. It has so much information to choose from. I've learned quite a bit about the different states that make up our America. There is a map you can click onto that shows various facts, pictures, the history of the state, geology, culture, and much more. It is an enjoyable database. So, if you are interested in our America, this is for you.
The Mid-Continent Public Library has several online resources that are beneficial for students and adults alike. You will find them on our website, and they can be accessed from your home computer, too.
One resource is our card Catalog. Here you can search books, audiobooks, CDs, and DVDs; see the branches where they are located, and put them on hold. You will receive a notice when they are in at your library.

Hulu, Lulu and Sockso are not baby babblings or duckling cousins to Huey, Louie, and Dewey. They are popular web site resources that do different things.
It is hard to believe we have been in space more than 50 years, and 41 years since Neil Armstrong took that memorable "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." – and became the first human to set foot on another body in our solar system. How many people remember the heady excitement and thrill we all felt, as friends and families from all over the world gathered round their TVs to watch the momentous event?.
Now, I know Halloween is over, but every year around this time I start thinking about how Halloween became Halloween. I feel like there is more to the date than costumes, candy, and trick-or-treating. I began my research on our MCPL list of history databases. Searching individual databases was not providing me with a ton of general information, so I decided to do a cross search on multiple databases (top of the page). This search brought plenty of results, including a rather interesting tale from Ireland.
While working at the circulation desk, I am frequently asked by customers for a "good book." We do have several resources available to help in this search. My favorite is the "author read-alike" featured of NovelList Plus. This feature of the database will give suggestions of writers to try based on my current favorite authors.
Have you found the huge selection of databases available on the MCPL website? There are wonderful resources right at your fingertips. From the Homepage, click on Kids at the top. On the left side of the screen, you will see Teachers. Click on this, and then click Web Resources: Teaching Resources. You will find excellent resources on this page. Be sure to click Home Schooling at the top of the page for additional resources specifically for homeschoolers!
The library has just finished editing their publication, Christian Fiction Authors. You can pick up a copy at your local branch. It lists hundreds of Christian fiction authors and the series of books they have written. Series are listed by name, and the titles are in order so you can follow the story from beginning to end. The catalog is so nice because you can mark what books you have read and make notes about your favorites.
