With the winter snow and wind, I think chili makes a great simple dinner idea to warm the body inside and make the house smell great too. I have my own easy chili recipe that my family loves (listed below). MCPL has many cookbooks featuring soups and chili’s that you might want to try for a new recipe.
There is something about a snow day that makes me think of baking. I immediately start thinking of the pantry, and what’s inside that could be thrown together to create something mouthwateringly delicious. I become so desperate that I’ve been known to dash to the grocery store in weather no one else would brave for that crucial missing ingredient.
My husband recently retired, and after sitting around the house for about 6 months, he decided he needed a hobby. I was both surprised and pleased when he chose to take up cooking. He jumped in with both feet! Before long, we had tons of lasagna, meatballs, meatloaf, grilled chicken, and jambalaya.
Did you know that March is National Frozen Food Month? This month is set aside to raise awareness in consumers of the convenience, quality, and nutritional benefits of frozen foods. I was intrigued with the thought of cooking meals ahead. I went to the cookbooks at the Liberty Branch, and I found a new book called, The Everything Freezer Meals Cookbook by Candace Anderson.

One of my favorite magazines and series of cookbooks are the publications by Taste of Home. Last Saturday, I attended the Taste of Home Cooking School and Home Expo in Atchison, Kansas. It was a lot of fun! Tickets are usually $15, and it was well worth the small amount of money. You can find dates for a few more upcoming Missouri shows here.
I’ve recently been diagnosed with hypertension or high blood pressure. I had an allergic reaction to the medication that I was given. After this and several health concerns that my husband has for himself, we decided to try a no oil Vegan diet. We realized when we did this that this would be more than a "lose some weight and then go back to what we used to eat" diet. This would be a life change.
