Welcome to the Library: We're a Lot More than a Collection of Books
What does reading a book, watching a movie, and learning something new have in common? They're solitary activities that we often have a hard time keeping to ourselves. You may watch the newest dystopian flick in the company of good friends, but you're the one taking it all in, forming an opinion as you watch. Likewise, being in science class with several other students doesn't change the fact that you're the one responsible for understanding that day's lesson. Reading a book is perhaps the most individual act of all. And yet, if the title in question moves you enough, you want to share it.
On March 26th at 6:30 p.m., Kearney celebrates American Girls! Here’s a clue about the doll we’ll feature at this year’s party – the official fish of her home state is the humuhumunukunukuapua'a. Have you guessed yet? That’s right, it’s Kanani and she’s from Hawaii!! Are you ready for a luau?
Disgusting, disturbing discoveries await you in this icky program! We’ll be experiencing yucky demonstrations and experiments, as well as making slime and snot bubbles. Along the way, we’re even going to learn some fun facts to gross out Mom and Dad. Did you know, by the way, that adult elephants poop enough daily to equal the weight of a 10 year old boy? So, if you’re geared up for even more gooey, slimy, sloppy fun, stop by the library for It’s Gross.
We're throwing a special tea party for you and your favorite plush friends! On Saturday, April 21st at 2:00 p.m. (that's this Saturday!), join us for a Teddy Bear Tea party. Bring along your favorite bear, bunny, or any other plush friend, and feel free to dress in your party best!
You and your plush pal will be treated to teddy bear storytime, have a chance to introduce your friend to all the others at show-and-tell, and make a few beary fun crafts to take home. And I hope your teddy bear is ready for a challenge, because we will also have some teddy bear team games!
Do you catch yourself day dreaming about summer? I think everyone does from time to time, and everyone for sure dreams of being on summer break! This summer, plan to be involved with your kids in our Summer Reading Program. The program begins May 21st and ends July 31st. You will be able to sign up online after May 21st, or go to your local branch to sign up. Be sure to look at which of our 3 programs (Listener, Reader, or Teen) is the most appropriate for your child. Come and Dream Big @ your Library and READ this summer. Now wake up from your daydream!
Fancy Nancy is just a little girl who likes fancy words, fancy clothes, and fancy manners. She loves to put fancy embellishments (that’s fancy for decoration) in her hair, and she’s so very clever and endearing.
Who’s your favorite superhero? Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman? Did you know that every day you can be a superhero too? All you have to do is take care of your body by making good choices and you can achieve Superhero Health! We want to encourage our young patrons to get fit, so join us for stretching, exercise, an activity, and a nutritious snack.
Homeschooled and traditionally educated students are invited to the Colbern Road Branch on April 26th at 3:00 p.m. to get superhero healthy. Hope to see you there!
I broke down and went shopping for flowers yesterday, and that’s when it hit me—it’s almost SUMMER! School will be out next week for many of our school districts, and our libraries will be teaming with children and teens looking for a great summer read.
Our Summer Reading Program begins next Monday May 21. The theme this year is "Dream Big READ!" for children and "Own the Night" for teens. So, be sure to pick up a brochure at your local branch, and check out the awesome summer programs we have planned.
Need Something Fun To Do This Summer With the Kids?
Shatto Milk Company, famous for their glass bottles and root beer flavored milk, is just a short thirty minute drive north of the Edgerton Branch. Shatto will be opening their dairy farm for tours the afternoon of Edgerton Branch’s 13th Annual Frog Jumping Contest: Wednesday, June 20th, 2012. Participants may want to pack a picnic lunch and make a day trip of these two fun activities. The Library has clean restrooms and a nearby park
