Gwen Cooper had every intention of saying no to the veterinarian who asked her to adopt a three week old stray kitten with no eyes. She was fresh off a bad breakup, working a low paying job, and living rent free in a friend’s bedroom. She already had two cats, and was afraid another addition would make her the ‘crazy cat lady’ of the neighborhood. However, it was love at first sight, and the kitten was named Homer.
Young Adult books are awesome, this I know. The writers and plots are sometimes so much better than what adult authors are writing. I’m not one to negate a great adult book though, and especially an animal story at that.

Quitman, Arkansas Rescue 2002 - Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, Part 4
In the fall of 2002, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge was called to a breeding facility in Quitman, AR. The owner, who specialized in selling big cats as "pets," said his population had grown too large to care for. He called TCWR to take some of his 66 cats off his hands. When the rescue crew returned to Turpentine Creek, they had six starved tigers with them, all one year old or younger.
