Gwen Cooper had every intention of saying no to the veterinarian who asked her to adopt a three week old stray kitten with no eyes. She was fresh off a bad breakup, working a low paying job, and living rent free in a friend’s bedroom. She already had two cats, and was afraid another addition would make her the ‘crazy cat lady’ of the neighborhood. However, it was love at first sight, and the kitten was named Homer.
Young Adult books are awesome, this I know. The writers and plots are sometimes so much better than what adult authors are writing. I’m not one to negate a great adult book though, and especially an animal story at that.
"With this life, I give you the gifts of nobility, certainty, and faith so that you can lead the Clan in the ways of the Warrior Code." Bluestar mews. Stepping back, she and the other cats of Starclan called out, "Firestar! Firestar! Firestar!"
As a librarian, I am a dedicated researcher of the very serious business of the Internet. I have set forth to find the most influential picture on the entire World Wide Web, and I have concluded that it is one of a cat posing the following question: "I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER?" Does Your Neighbor Have a Tiger? - Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, Part 1
You are used to hearing a neighbor’s dog bark or cats in a cat fight. If you are farther out in the country, you are even used to the sounds of cows and horses and an occasional coyote howl. But how would you feel if you heard a tiger growl or a lion roar? How would you feel if you discovered that a tiger is living next door in your suburban neighborhood? Or that a lion is roaming a nearby farm? The idea isn't so far-fetched. It's happening right across America. Tigers and lions are surprisingly easy and inexpensive to purchase as pets.
Quitman, Arkansas Rescue 2002 - Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, Part 4
In the fall of 2002, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge was called to a breeding facility in Quitman, AR. The owner, who specialized in selling big cats as "pets," said his population had grown too large to care for. He called TCWR to take some of his 66 cats off his hands. When the rescue crew returned to Turpentine Creek, they had six starved tigers with them, all one year old or younger.
Meet Phoebe. She is a cat that I adopted from the local shelter nearly 6 years ago. I can’t image life without her. She is cute, fun, amusing, and affectionate. Since June is ADOPT-A-SHELTER-CAT MONTH, every animal lover should check out their local animal shelter, and if possible, adopt a cat or kitten, give them a loving home, and enrich your life at the same time. Below is a list of some of the animal shelters in the local Kansas City area.
