On February 7, at 9 a.m., Tax Help for Seniors (Free from AARP) is coming to our Claycomo Branch. IRS certified volunteers will provide free tax counseling and preparation. Then on February 8, at 10 a.m., the Avoid Tax Return Mistakes program will be presented. This class includes information on several key issues concerning changes in the tax landscape for many taxpayers.

Some basic to average genealogy skills are necessary.

The Midwest Genealogy Centers offers many classes, including beginning classes. Upcoming Beginning Genealogy classes are scheduled for Saturday, January 8th at 9:30 a.m. and again on Tuesday, February 1st at 10:00 a.m.
Due to weather conditions, the Blue Springs North Branch had to cancel our How Do I Do That? Internet 101 class. Because this program is very informative, the staff has decided to reschedule. The Internet 101 class will now be held on Monday, January 24 at 7 p.m.
Preston Washington has done extensive research into the records of Freedmen, slaves owned by Indian tribes. Certain Native American tribes had close relations with African Americans, especially those in the Southeast where slavery was prevalent. Members of the Five Civilized Tribes (Cherokee, Creek, Seminole, Choctaw, and Chickasaw) held enslaved blacks, who migrated with them to the West during Indian Removal in 1830 and later.
The Grain Valley Stitchers made 15 minute table runners at our Tuesday meeting. Despite the road conditions, we still had a few ladies attend with the fabric needed to make the runners.
