Fall, Autumn, whatever you call it, it’s the time of year when the temperature gets cooler (thank goodness!), the leaves on the trees turn brilliant colors, the kids are back in school, and the Chiefs are playing some football!
The Kansas City Chiefs are definitely one of the reasons Kansas Citians like fall so much. Could it be that Kansas Citians love football? Or, is it that we all hold out hope for another Super Bowl win (let’s face it; it’s been over 40 years)! Or, is it the camaraderie we feel as a city, all coming together to cheer for one team?
Back when I was a young boy growing up in Independence, there were two things that really got me stoked (besides playing in the yard): the Chiefs and reading. I would watch Chiefs games with my parents, mostly on TV but occasionally at the stadium. After a little while, I would get bored, but K. C. Wolf was always there and I thought he was the coolest mascot in the league!
Must-see TV: Remembering the Chiefs’ Derrick Thomas
Fan or nonfan, most every installment of NFL Films’ A Football Life is worth an hour of your viewing time. It’s that good.
In the Kansas City area later this month, it’ll be must-see TV.
The twice-Emmy-nominated documentary hits on one of the most compelling chapters in the history of the hometown Chiefs, recalling both the brilliance and gone-too-soon tragedy that marked the life and career of All Pro linebacker Derrick Thomas. The episode airs Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. CT on the NFL Network.
