If You Were Trapped on a Desert Island and Could Only Listen to One Band Forever, Who Would It Be?
This was the question my husband asked me last night while we split a bottle of wine at our favorite Zona Rosa BBQ restaurant. They were playing a particularly good channel of classic rock while we devoured our ribs and burnt ends. He was torn between Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin -- his ultimate choice was Pink Floyd. I don't see how we ever got married, because, between those two choices, I would have chosen the opposite.
Are we defined by the era of music into which we’re born or the music we listen to? Some days I like to think the former, and other times, I like the sounds of the latter. Then, I realize that the era into which I was born was full of really silly things. But, to be honest, it just depends. While I’m "technically" an 80s kid, my childhood existed in the 90s.
Are you going to a concert this summer? There’s nothing that says summer like getting that crisp ticket at the box office and walking into the darkened arena ready for a great time. Everyone’s buzzing with excitement, dancing to the opener, and then, finally, the headliner takes the stage. The lights come up and for two hours, you’re in a world of your own. The music creates a bubble that your worries and stress can’t pop and you just chill.
I have written a couple of lengthy blogs to submit for my August deadline. They are witty, insightful, and informative. But I changed my mind on the way to work this morning. I wasn't feeling particularly well when I woke up. I hadn't slept much, and my stomach was queasy, the result of a rich evening meal and some recent stresses in my personal life. I had awoken a bit earlier than usual though, and this afforded me the luxury of avoiding the morning frantic rush in which I usually find myself.
Running. Who needs it? Well, this guy. But I have a really hard time staying motivated to run, usually before I start running but even while my feet are shuffling along on the trail. Like many others out there, I get bored with running. It’s tedious, hard work, and awkward, especially if you like to do the T-Rex to conserve arm strength, which is great for that purpose but not so great when you’re scaring small children as you run past the jungle gym. Plus, after hearing the same songs or artists for long enough, it can make you go crazy. Shuffle can only help you for so long.
