The crisp mornings and evenings of late summer signal the transition to autumn. This year's autumnal equinox, according to USA.gov, officially arrives at 11:09 p.m. ET, September 22. Ahhh, Autumn ~ its my favorite time of the year for several reasons. First on the list is the return of football. Soccer just doesn't cut it for me. That's probably politically incorrect of me given the excitement the World Cup generated this year.
Since I work at the library, and I'm here the majority of the time, I had to step back and put myself in the shoes of our customers. I wondered if I would continue to use the library as a primary resource, or if I would rely solely on the power of the internet to solve all my information quests? One of the many reasons why I really enjoy working at a library is that I keep up on music just by watching what CDs come across the counter. Since a lot of my favorite music doesn’t get much radio airplay, I use the library as my primary source for music. A lot of people come in and browse the CD collection, or go online to the MCPL catalog to search for new music. But, did you know that you can place holds on music CDs before they even hit the library shelves, and that by doing so, you can have a say in determining the content of MCPL’s music collection?
I’ll admit that I’m a big dork. I love to read…that’s probably why I work at the Library. One of my favorite things to do is check out the Forthcoming Titles section of our catalog. I’ll often spend an hour or so looking through the forthcoming material, finding the newest releases from my most read authors.
Are you wondering what popular authors have new titles coming out in the next few months? Check out the Forthcoming Titles section in our catalog. They may not be published or have not yet arrived, but you will be able to place a hold for these items as soon as they are listed. It is a little like Christmas all year long. The Forthcoming Titles and Recent Additions lists are continually changing, so be sure to check on them regularly.
