Do you ever have a free moment when you think to yourself, "I should do something crafty"? Well that’s what happened to me this week on my day off, but it didn’t turn out very well.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the Grain Valley Branch Saturday December, 8th at 10:00 a.m. for stories and an opportunity to visit with Santa. Bring the camera and capture this memory forever.
Can you hear what I hear? Santa Claus! And Mrs. Claus, too? Since when does she make house calls? I thought she always stayed at the North Pole to keep track of the elves' shenanigans. Do you know why elves make the toys and never get them? My theory is that they are always naughty enough to keep them from getting presents but nice enough to not get a lump of coal. I'm sure they keep her very busy, but this is a very special occasion!
It’s that time of year again. It is time to start thinking about your holiday cooking. I don’t know how it got here so fast. If you need any help finding good recipes, try looking for holiday cooking in the catalog.
You can also go to MCPL’s Web Resources. There are a lot of good websites listed here.
I've written before about how much I love this time of year. I literally spend hours decorating my tree at home to ensure that all of the ornaments are spaced totally evenly, and not a single branch is left without decoration. I've also enjoyed being the resident decorator of our branch Christmas tree for the past few years.
It’s Christmas time! Faith, family, and fun are all different aspects that people enjoy around the holiday season. Although December 9, 1965 isn’t written about in any history books; it’s a date most people will appreciate. It’s the first time that the beloved Charles M. Schultz classic, A Charlie Brown Christmas, was aired on CBS! It now airs regularly on ABC since it acquired the rights from CBS. It has claimed both an Emmy Award and Peabody Award.
Tired of the same old traditional Christmas food? Try having an ethnic food Christmas!
My husband’s family has a tradition of making different ethnic food for Christmas dinner. Each person is responsible for bringing a dish. One year we did Chinese food, and I tried sticky rice for the first time. We were also able to invite some Chinese foreign exchange students. Another year we did German food, and I will never forget the delicious German chocolate cake and spicy potato salad. The next year we did French food, my personal favorite!
Share the Holidays with Your Family’s Favorite Character
Start a wonderful tradtion with your family this holiday season. Working in Youth Services has me around wonderful children’s books every day, and I wanted to share with you some of my holiday favorites. MCPL has a lot of great books highlighting the joy and tradition of this time of year. I will be choosing a few of these titles to read with my niece and nephew on Christmas Eve.
