Gritty, daring, or just plain weird, these books are so tough they should be wearing flannel shirts on paper towel wrappers. Give your inner man child a thrill by checking one out at your local MCPL branch today. We dare you.
My mother was right, "the older you get, the faster time goes". The cooler mornings, and books being placed on hold tell me that Autumn is in the air. Didn't I just take down the fall decorations only to get ready to put them out again? I've seen some fun, fall books come across the checkout desk, so I thought I'd share a few with you.
Alright, I’ll admit it (insert labored sigh). I’m not a Nancy Drew fan. Veronica Mars? Of course. Buffy the Vampire Slayer? YES PLEASE! But Nancy Drew and I have never been formally introduced.
Let me tell you about my cat, Sammy, who truly runs the household. I thought when felines got somewhat older, they slowed down. But not my feline, he is about ten years old. I believe he has an Everready battery attached to himself, but I sure can't seem to find it. He loves to shred paper up and tips over anything that contains liquid, which spills all over the place. Sammy thinks the kitchen counter, cabinets, and table is his personal runway. He has some wonderful qualities, but oh, I wish he would slow down. Does anyone have a cat like mine?
The two Swagger series by Stephen Hunter are fast paced, action packed, and my personal favorites. Earl Swagger was a Marine WWII Medal of Honor winner and an Arkansas State Police Sergeant. His Son, Bob Lee, is a Marine Vietnam veteran and famous Sniper. Hunter pays special attention in his novels to descriptions of firearms and their operation. He is also a Kansas City native.
