We are always very happy to have the opportunity to serve you. Here are a few of the services that Mid-Continent Public Library offers.
Books and Reading
- Books and Much More! - Mid-Continent Public Library has over 3 million items available for you. You can borrow books, movies on VHS and DVD, music on CD, and audiobooks on CD. All are in your local library and waiting for you. However, if we cannot fill your request from our collection, the library will borrow what you want from one of our 9,100 library partners.
- Book Discussion Clubs - Several types of book clubs, as well as anime clubs, art clubs, and much more are available across the MCPL system.
- Interlibrary Loan - The Mid-Continent Public Library provides a free of charge interlibrary loan (ILL) service which permits patrons to obtain materials from other libraries throughout the United States which are not owned by MCPL.
- Magazines and Periodicals - All the library branches subscribe to several magazines and periodicals that you may enjoy. In addition, the library subscribes to several online archives of magazines and newspapers. You can also view a catalog of our physical periodical archive from this website.
Outreach
- Daycare Visits - Special arrangements can be made for daycare groups to visit the library or for library staff to visit the daycare.
- Library-By-Mail - Books, Books-on-Tape or CD, CDs, DVDs and videos are delivered to patrons who cannot get to a library branch because of health, mobility, age, permanent or temporary incapacity.
- School Visits - Special arrangements can be made for classes to visit the library or for library staff to visit the classroom.
Computing and Online Services
- Downloadable Audiobooks - Your MP3 player and computer become your library on-the-go when you download audiobooks from the library website.
- Downloadable eBooks - Our eBook collection is growing! Download your favorite titles to your eBook reader and enjoy.
- Library Online - The library subscribes to more than 200 high quality online resources. You can repair your car, evaluate investments, access maps, find old newpaper articles, read computer and business books online, and much more. Best of all, most of these resources are available from any computer with Internet access if you have an MCPL library card.
- Public Computers - Each library branch has computers for public use. You can check email, surf the web, search for a job, or write a paper.
- Tutoring and Homework Help - Through our website you can connect with live tutors who can help with math, science, reading, social sciences, or even resume writing.
- Wi-Fi - All MCPL branches (including Library-To-Go) have free Wi-Fi access.
Other Services
- Programs and Classes - The library has classes on everything from computer skills and job searching to puppet shows, jazz music, magic shows, and film discussions. All classes are open to the public.
- Storytime - There are more than 65 storytimes at MCPL branches, all waiting to take children on exciting new adventures and help build interest in reading. Find a storytime at a library near you.
- Discovery Club - These enrichment classes are open to all, but are designed for children ages 7-12. Length is generally 30-60 minutes and the programs include guest speakers, crafts, art, music, videos, science, reading, library skills, animals, etc. View the Discovery Club Newsletter for more information.
- Teacher Assistance - This service allows teachers to submit requests to library staff for collections of items for use in the classroom or in the library.
- Voter Registration - All MCPL branches are voter registration sites.
