Mustache Madness: Reads and Reels for Movember

Mustache Madness: Reads and Reels for Movember

November 19, 2021

It’s that magical time of the year again! No, not the holidays—Movember! Also sometimes called “No-Shave November,” it’s a time when many people grow and display their mustaches with bristly pride to build awareness and raise money for charities that focus on men’s health issues, including mental health, testicular cancer, and prostate cancer. Even cars are getting in on the mustache madness!

Personally, I love festive facial hair and especially mustaches! There is something about the variety of shapes and styles that I find impressive. If you’re looking for some inspiration to get in the mustache mentality, here are just a few individuals that always spring to my mind when I think of iconic ’staches, along with links to their work (or information about them) in the Library’s catalog:

And, of course, there is no shortage of books and movies for all ages about the marvelous mustache in the Library’s catalog! Also, be sure to check out this list of suggested reads from MCPL staff: To Beard or Not to Beard.

If you’re a fan of nonfiction, here are a few options for you to explore:

  • The Beard Trim,” an instructional video with grooming tutorials
  • Men with Beards, a documentary profiling several men who have cultivated beards as a matter of identity and self-expression
  • History of Facial Hair, explores “the connection between grooming, identity, culture, and masculinity”
  • Knit Your Own Moustache, a delightfully fun craft book about how to create all types of different facial hair looks!

Interested in learning more about health and wellness topics, including those often discussed during Movember? Be sure to explore the Library’s collection of resources on the Access Wellness webpage.

So, what do you think? Will you participate in Movember? Are there any famous mustaches that you find iconic? Comment below!
