Engaging Learning at Your Fingertips: Upgraded Children's Computers at Mid-Continent Public Library

July 17, 2023

Exciting news for families and early learners! Mid-Continent Public Library has recently upgraded children's computers at 12 locations, including Lee's Summit, Colbern Road, North Independence, South Independence, Blue Springs North, Blue Springs South, Kearney, Parkville, Platte City, Riverside, Excelsior Springs, and Woodneath. But that's not all – additional computers are on their way to East Lee's Summit, North Oak, and Grain Valley.

Thanks to the generous support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, these computer updates have become a reality under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

The enhanced computers are perfectly designed for children, featuring colorful keyboards, child-sized mice, and touch screens. Each computer comes preloaded with an impressive selection of over 75 different titles and 4,000+ educational activities, games, and eBooks. These engaging resources cover essential skills such as alphabet knowledge, addition and subtraction, phonics, geometry, and science, all presented in a fun and stimulating way.

Last year alone, these computers were used over 50,000 times, proving to be invaluable learning tools for the children of Jackson, Platte, and Clay counties. We are thrilled to provide these state-of-the-art learning opportunities to ensure that each library location can deliver engaging digital experiences to families and early learners.

Make sure to visit your local branch and check out the new computers. Exciting educational adventures await!
