September 14, 2023

Thank you for celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with Mid-Continent Public Library!

Beginning in 1968, Hispanic Heritage Week was declared from September 15th-September 21st. This week was chosen as it coincides with the Independence Days of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua on the 15th, Mexico on the 16th, Chile on the 18th, and Belize on the 21st. Since 1988, every sitting president has declared September 15th-October 15th as Hispanic Heritage Month.

On this page you can find information on learning Spanish, Fiction Books both in English and Spanish, Biographies, Recipes, and even books translated from Spanish.

Check out digital resource Hispanic Life in America to explore “incredibly influential contributions and history of Hispanic Americans.” This resource has over 700 Spanish-language or bilingual publications, along with over 17,000 global news sources!
